Data loss can be devastating, expensive and disruptive. It is therefore very important that data is frequently and securely backed up. Backups should be stored offsite, for disaster recovery purposes. Firstserv offers secure, reliable backups using R1soft Data Protection.
Firstserv offsite backup allows you to save a copy of the data from your office machine in our secure data centre. A client program is installed on your computer which encrypts your data and sends it over the Internet to storage in our data centre.
You can select which files and folders you want to back up, and can access your backups at any time via a web-based control panel which allows you to restore from backup and easily amend your settings.
Firstserv uses R1Soft, which works at the disk sector level and bypasses the file system. This results in high performance and does not interrupt I/O requests, so your systems will not be slowed down. Backups can be set to run overnight, or slowly throughout the day.
Firstserv’s offsite backup works with Windows or Linux machines. Restore time will depend on the Internet connection speed at the client’s end, but is generally fast.

For customers with servers in our data centres, Firstserv provides the following backup services:
Firstserv selective backup allows individual files and folders to be backed up and restored (up to the size limit) using R1Soft CDP3.0.
Back up is performed on an incremental basis. A snapshot will be taken once per day and stored for 1 week.
Customers can use a web-based control panel to access and restore their backups, or select different files and folders to be stored.
If you need more space, this can be provisioned in minutes.
All backups are checked daily by our backup technical team to make sure they are working correctly, and test restores are carried out regularly.
Customers may choose to have their entire hard drive backed up via R1soft. A snapshot will be taken once per day and stored for 1 week.
If there is a problem with your server then you can select specific files and folders to restore, or perform a bare metal restore onto new hardware of the entire hard drive.
A bare metal restore will save all operating settings, and a restore typically means that no further work needs to be performed. Backups and restores take place on a back end network, so do not affect external server speeds. Typical restore time is 1 minute per GB.
If preferred, Firstserv backup customers may choose to back up more frequently than once per day. Backup frequency can be increased up to 1 minute intervals, providing bandwidth resources are available. This is known as continuous data protection (CDP).
Note that CDP can be bandwidth and processor intensive, especially if a lot of changes are being made to a server. Please ensure that you plan for the extra processor and network resources required should CDP be implemented.
50GB selective backup – included with all managed servers
Additional space is charged as follows:
Price for Total backup will depend on the size of your hard drive.
